Manchetts Sleaford has chosen a charity to support for 2026. With a number of keen bikers on the team, Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Biker Service was a natural choice. Formed in January 2012 by an enthusiastic group of volunteers, LEBBS collects and delivers blood, or anything of an urgent medical nature that will fit on a motorcycle: samples, donor breast milk, plasma, platelets, vaccines and so much more. The group is 100% run by volunteers and funded by public and corporate donations, so Manchetts is proud to support such a vital service in our local area.

Manchetts will be hosting a stand at the Suffolk Show again this year on 27th & 28th May. We have a main street location placed between Suffolk County Council & the Sizewell C Project team. 158th Heckington Show on 25-26th July is another date for your diary. The largest village show in England, it is a perfect day out for cookery, crafts, animals, displays and music.

Spring has now (almost) sprung after what seemed like an interminable Winter. It is a joy to see, and hear, the bees waking up at the Haughley Honey hive site.

Manchetts Peterborough and Manchetts Newmarket are currently coordinating recycling schemes for the Group on our journey towards UK net zero and ISO environmental standards.

Every little helps so we are also happy to support disposal of your home-based printing supplies. You can drop off your used toners/cartridges to Filomena at Peterborough or Paul Jenkins at Newmarket.

Similarly, small battery recycling is available at most of our sites, so just drop all work-related (& domestic) batteries in the relevant pots at our parts departments or receptions.

New Certification

“FORS is the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme which promotes best practice for vehicle operators, especially around safety, efficiency, and environmental impact,” explained Gemma Manchett, on behalf of the ManchettsRecovery team.

“It’s a good way to show that we are legally compliant, well managed and operating safely with the processes we have in place. We have both 6 and 8 weekly inspections listed on our O licence, and I had to demonstrate that all our vehicles follow a maintenance planner and agreement we have in place with ManchettsNewmarket commercial workshops.Further documentary evidence was required for driver records, CPC, tacho, O Licence certifications, and finally I had to present a year’s worth of fuel usage and ad blue usage and workout the emissions per vehicle/per year.. and then produce a carbon reduction plan alongside that.

ATF lane is live at Sleafrd

Manchetts Sleaford site has undergone considerable development since onboarding in 2023, and has culminated with the ‘go live’ of the ATF lane. A new pit was sunk, rising brake roller technology installed, and then the wait for DVSA approval began. Branch Manager, Aaron Woods, had extensive consultations with the ministry to ensure all requirements were met and the first test took place in January. The DVSA testers who have since been on site have been very complimentary about the facilities and excellent organisation from administration through to test presentation .

The in-house ATF lane will ultimately remove the need to travel up to 30 miles for MOTs and provide better service to our customers and the MAN network.

MAN’s HGV EVs are becoming an increasing reality. Manchetts Sleaford is hosting 6 new trucks ready for Lawrence David conversions. Whilst on site, they have to be charged in readiness for use which has provided an opportunity to put the new EV bay into good use.

Meanwhile, at Peterborough, Ryan and Felipe have attended the MAN franchise specific EV training at the MAN Experience Centre in Manchester. [Ryan, pictured below]

Thank you very much to Jeni Davy for attending our careers fair yesterday afternoon. She had loads of conversations with students and fielded plenty of questions.

The students very much appreciated her time and expertise, and several commented on how helpful and encouraging they had found the session.

Careers Fairs allow us to enhance our branding and reputation within the area and enable prospective employees to connect with us directly.

The opportunity to engage with the younger generation provides them with a real expectation of the skillsets and qualifications required and can help build awareness and a pipeline for future talent. We have had a number of apprenticeship applications for our workshops in Newmarket, Peterbourough & Sleaford with some very strong candidates.

Customer Growth - Spring 2026

New Business Development Manager, Lindsay Powell, has been busy developing new contacts on behalf of the whole Group.

Oak Logistics have now been transferred into 5 of our rental vehicles. All prepared and turned around by the team at Sleaford and now maintained at Peterborough. A big thank you to both teams that have made this happen!!

We have a MAN demo vehicle going into Mason Bros at Swineshead. If the vehicle performs on fuel, there will be an order placed, then maintained by our Sleaford depot. Another demo vehicle is being trialled by SR Harradine Haulage. The Peterborough team is processing 25 TGEs through the workshop for AYVENS. These will then be distributed nationally.

JK Services are pleased with their newest fleet member supplied via Manchetts Newmarket: a spanking new MAN TGX 540: the first tractor unit investment of many planned for this year. Green Circle Logistics took delivery of their first MAN, a TGM, after buying up longstanding customer BC Wiles, Peterborough.

Expertise in Action - Spring 2026

Using specialist equipment, the recovery team deployed a crane to lift the rear of the trailer while simultaneously winching the vehicle forward. This coordinated operation allowed the articulated lorry to be carefully guided back onto firm, dry road without causing damage. The team said the water up to waists was absolutely freezing !!

A heavy goods vehicle was safely recovered after becoming stranded in floodwater at WelneyWash,

The near-side rear trailer wheels slipped off the carriageway into soft ground hidden beneath deep water. The trailer began to lean heavily to one side, leaving the driver unable to regain traction or move the vehicle.

Sean Manchett said the incident highlights the hidden dangers of driving through floodwater, particularly at locations such as WelneyWash where road edges can be difficult to see.

“Standing water can disguise soft verges and sudden drop-offs that pose a serious risk to heavy vehicles,” he said. “Our priority is always a safe, controlled, damage-free recovery"

Owen had a fantastic time being shown around Westminster and meeting with several MPs. It was a great opportunity for Owen and a real privilege to be selected. [Owen, pictured second left]

This Spring also saw the qualification of HGV Level 3 apprentice, Jack Palmer, at Manchetts Newmarket.

Jack was a runner up for MAN’s Rising Star award in 2025 and has been a consistently high performer in the workshops. Peter, Branch Manager, and Shift Supervisors, Shumi and Emil awarded his certificate while Charlotte, Service Administrator and Sam, Workshop Controller, presented Jack with one of his wish list of tools. In his acceptance speech, Jack thanked all of his colleagues who had shared knowledge, good humour and their tools to make his training such a success.

Plenty of pizza and good wishes followed!

The whole team at Patersons Bodyshop at Newmarket joined Ellie to celebrate her success. Ellie was recognised by her college and her colleagues as uniquely outstanding, both for her dedication and for her innate skills.

Ellie reflected, “Completing my 3 year apprenticeship has given me the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills, from routine accident repairs jobs to carrying out full resprays.

Moving forward, I am excited to continue building on this experience, completing more respray projects and developing my skills in custom paintwork.”

Daren Goodchild, Branch Manager, presented Ellie with a new spray gun, and led the party with pizzas for all.

A fantastic £3500 was raised for Burwell surgery's medical fund at the Annual Pete Manchett Memorial Golf Day in October. After some torrential downpours leading up to the event, dawn brought an optimistic autumnal sunrise and the day remained dry. The event was attended by colleagues from Patersons, Manchetts Recovery, Peterborough & Sleaford, longstanding and new customers, alongside Pete Manchett’s golf buddies too.

Manchetts Peterborough have increased their sports sponsorship portfolio to include Whittlesey Warriors U12 netball team who recently qualified for Division A of the Cambridgeshire league. Particularly proud of this success is workshop controller, John Clarke, whose daughter has been selected for the team.

In November, the team at Manchetts Newmarket collected 60 winter coats in support of Bury St Edmunds Drop In.

Bury Drop In is a registered charity supporting people who are homeless and vulnerably housed the area. Their guests include the street homeless, rough sleepers, sofa-surfers, those in temporary accommodation, and people who were homeless but need support to avoid falling back into homelessness.

Manchetts Newmarket hosted a visit for students from Acorn Park near Norwich, a school providing specialist education for autistic young people.. The two visitors were keenly interested, and well-informed, about vehicle technology. Particular thanks to Chris Bunning [pictured here] & Aidan Brown in LCV for taking time to give thorough explanations of repairs which the students particularly enjoyed. The Manchetts Recovery caps were also much appreciated!

Teams at Manchetts Peterborough, Newmarket and Patersons brought on their Great British Bake-Off skills to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee and Cake Morning in September. Packages were sent out to Recovery, Burwell and Head Office to swell the funds and an impressive £700 was raised by all. There were so many generous and delicioius contributions at both sites that the morning spanned 3 days!

Jamie Darkin of Patersons demonstrated that his Guiness and chocolate velvet cake was of the same inimitable smooth standards as his workmanship. Jeni Davy, HR Lead, created her traditional cupcakes, and Paul Jenkins made his ‘almost nothing but cheese’ cheese straws.

It was an honour to have been invited to the final show of the season Drifter style 2025 in Belfast with our Scania V* Grandad truck! Very well organised from start to finish with some incredible trucks on display from all over Europe and all worthy winners of their silverware!

We were also invited to attend the temple of truck shows in Ciney, Belgium, with our Scania V8 2014. Shown here with the fireworks! We convoyed to Belgium to show our working truck, a real honour.

As the fresher and wetter mornings increased, Manchetts Recovery were out and about for winch outs helping the farmers out with their mighty machines.

Something a little different for the team to move. A bespoke hand-built shepherd’s hut was moved and placed into position with precision. Just in time for a wedding !

A 180 year old fire engine was transported with particular care from one museum to another.

MAN’s HGV EV readiness target for 2026 has been achieved by all three Manchetts depots. Although there are few MAN EVs on the road at present, clearly there needs to be aftersales network support prepared to provide vehicle handovers and any service requirements.

This means that each site has invested heavily to have suitably qualified technicians, requisite tooling, charging point and an external quarantine bay in case of potential fire danger. All that remains to be done is the bespoke training on the MAN HGV EV itself which will be hosted by MAN in early 2026.

This HGV provision will now stand alongside the car & LCV EV servicing and recovery currently provided by Manchetts Burwell, Newmarket and Recovery.

Our 2025 MAN apprentices, HGV tech Shawn Harwin (Manchetts Peterborough) & for the Parts Dept, Joshua Roberts and Isaac Munns (Manchetts Newmarket) were introduced to their learning journey at the brand new MAN experience centre, Manchester in October. They completed sessions to learn about EV & customer service and took part in a messy team building event using spaghetti and marshmallows.

The fun continued in November with an outward bound course, focusing on teamwork and resilience, in Derbyshire. Not only did they attend, but achieved outstanding results: Shawn was commended as an outstanding team-leader; Isaac and Joshua were integral members of the winning team to complete the physical challenge, a five-hour, 17km hike with tasks across Mam Tor, Back Tor and Loose Hill - in very inclement weather. Ongoing focus for Parts Dept development continues with Jak Savill, Manchetts Sleaford, and Kyle Taylor, Manchetts Peterborough, who trained ‘on-the-job’ with parts managers Brian Crombie and Aaron Tuttlebee respectively. Jak & Kyle attended training at MAN Swindon in November to finesse the complexities of the parts systems they need to operate on a daily basis. ‘I definitely found the course useful and would like to do something similar again in the future,’ said Kyle.

New Business Development Manager, Lindsay Powell, has been busy developing new contacts on behalf of the whole Group. She spent the day with Brice Aggregates back in September for the opening of their new plant at Needingworth to explore their tipper fleet requirements.

Coast Transport, who are working on the H2S Link , have placed their new MAN with Manchetts Newmarket alongside 4 new units for Kersey Freight. Local firms Woollards (1), PB Doyle (2) and JK Services (4) have all signed up to service packages here too.

Highway 86 are now bringing all their 16 vehicle fleet to Manchetts Peterborough for servicing, alongside 11 from Woodford Recycling. GW Ward have signed up for a solutions package with Manchetts Spalding. Manchetts Sleaford have expanded their over counter parts supply with National Grid, Lincoln, and Steer Commercial Bodyshops.

In September, Manchetts Peterborough hosted a visit from the new head of MAN UK, Jan Kohlmeier, who brings a background of sales and parts expertise to the organisation. Jan had in-depth discussions with Glenn Manchett, Pete Williams, Aaron Woods & Filomena Baker to learn about Manchetts growth with MAN across the last four years, from a single workshop to four which demonstrate some of the highest standards in the whole MAN network – particularly through our ‘stronger together’ ethos which links up customer service between the depots and with Manchetts Recovery.

Award 2025 at the Professional Tow Show in October for consistent dedication to safety, training, and investment in its team. The prestigious accolade was presented to Sean Manchett for the commitment that the company has to protecting its team and the public on some of the UK’s most dangerous roadsides.
